Jobs wasn’t a natural born speaker, but he did know exactly how to take the stage and dazzle an audience. Here’s how he did it, and how you can incorporate those same strategies into your own business:
Get Into Their Heads
Jobs knew he had to explain his user-friendly personal computers, a totally new concept at the time, in an informal and casual way, like an excited friend showing off their new gadget. When you know who you’re talking to, you can cater your business to your audience’s needs and wants. Remind your audience that you understand where they are now- then explain how you can help!
Remember The Experience
Jobs understood that people don’t buy products. They buy stories, feelings, and lifestyle- something that Apple excels in. As you speak, focus on the end result that your product or service delivers. What emotions do you want your audience to feel?
Rehearse, Rehearse, and Rehearse Again
That Jobs’ speeches looked so great isn’t an accident. According to a 2006 Bloomberg article, Jobs practiced for hours at a time to achieve his effortlessly cool, casual demeanor. When rehearsing, be natural and conversational! When your audience sees and feels that you know your own value, they will be even more compelled to work with you.
